TMCS1101: Is there a 300VDC current detect and limiting circuit

Part Number: TMCS1101
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV4021, INA185

Dear Specialists,

My customer is considering a short circuit protection circuit for a 300V DC line.

Is there a reference design that detects the current and limits with the TMCS1101?

If possible, please provide a application note.

We would like to obtain the helpful information due to the high operating voltage.

I appreciate your great help in advance.

Best regards,

Shinichi

  • Shinichi,

I would recommend using the TMCS1101 in conjunction with a comparator, similar to this circuit here. The customer would need to replace the INA185 with the TMCS1101 to be able to handle the 300V, and then configure the TLV4021 reference to their desired trip point. It would be useful to understand what amount of current they are hoping to monitor/trip at, as the noise levels on Hall effect devices can be quite large. They can reduce this by reducing the BW of the part, but this of course has bearing on the circuits ability to respond.

When would the customer need this design? Another possibility here is we have a part releasing later this year that has a built in comparator that may also be attractive to them here.

  • Hi Carolus,

Thank you for your reply and provide a design idea.

I'll share this with the customer.

When they are interested in this design, I'll feedback to you.

I appreciate your great help and cooperation.

    Best regards,

    Shinichi
