HDC2010: Conformal Coating of PCB

Part Number: HDC2010
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HDC2021, HDC3021,

Hi Experts,

Please help us to check our customer's concern. I posted here below on their behalf.

The HDC2010YPAR is used on one of our designs, but we are only using this device for temperature measurement at the moment.

The board is used in a high-humidity environment, so the whole board has been going through a cleaning and coating process.
We realize that this process isn't optimal for the humidity functionality of the HDC-chip, since it wasn't covered before the process.

But what about the temperature measurement? Will the temp sensor be impacted by the cleaning/coating process, or is this sensor located in a separate part of the chip - not influenced by what happens to the humidity sensor?

Best regards,

Jonathan

  • Dear Jonathan -

The temperature sensor portion of the device would not be affected by the coating. However, the HDC2010 is not really suitable for application of conformal coating. In that family, the HDC2021 is recommended and the HDC3021 is next generation. These parts have a removable (after coating process in completed) tape cover, to expose the relative humidity sensor to water vapor in the environment.
