AWR2243: Temperature sensor need in Automotive Radar design

We notice that there are dedicate temperature sensors (TMP102-Q1) on both 2-chip and 4-chip cascading image radar reference designs.

We are wondering if it's really neccesary? since both the sensor, AWR2243. and the MCU, TDA2, can read itself's temperature and report.

Hello,

It is not required. You can use the internal temperature sensors.

On the AWR2243 datasheet it says "GPADC structures are used for measuring the output of internal temperature sensors. The accuracy of these measurements is ±7°C", Is it really that bad?

Yes, internal temp sensor accuracy is +/- 7C.

Dear Li -

Additionally - since you are using the AWR2243, there is a TI temp sensor that is thin enough and small enough to fit underneath the part, if you are interested in trying that out, as opposed to using TMP102 or TMP112 some distance away from the AWR device.
