MMWCAS-RF-EVM: Chirp parameter configuration

Part Number: MMWCAS-RF-EVM

Hi,

I want to ask several questions about MMWCAS-RF-EVM data collection:

1. I want to reduce the size of data by reducing the number of chirp and number of frame, so is it possible to remain the radar performance unchanged?

2. What is the minimum number of frame required for radar data capturing? I think there are 2 frames ignored in the MATLAB post-processing scripts, does that means the minimum number of frames required is 3?

3. If the number of chirp is reduced from 128 to 16, the time duration for 1 chirp becomes 8 times longer since the frame time is unchanged. The banswidth is also changed since bandwidth equals to time duration for one chirp times slope. Is it true?

Regards,

Chennan

  • Hi,

    1. Reducing the number of chirps will reduce the SNR. So the performance will decrease. Reducing the number of frames will only reduce the observation time. It will not have an impact on the performance

    2. Usually, we would recommend capturing at least 8 or 16 frames.

    3. No, the chirp duration will not change when reducing the number of chirps. The bandwidth will not change. What will change is the max velocity.

    Thank you

  • Hi Cesar,

    Thanks for your reply.

Since I want to capture the radar for a lot of time, for example, 100 sets of radar data and each of them includes 8 frames and 64 chirps for each frame, the size of data will be huge and it will be very slow to transfer them from ssd to my pc. Is there any efficient way to do this?

    Chennan

  • Hi,

Unfortunately only ssd transfer is available

    thank you
