TMAG5170UEVM: is not recognized properly.

Part Number: TMAG5170UEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TI-SCB

I am asking you because there is a problem in the process of sensor testing using the TMAG5170UEVM_GUI program by purchasing two TMAG5170UEVM boards and TI-SCB boards.

One TMAG5170UEVM is recognized as a TMAG5170A2 board when both TMAG5170A1 and TMAG5170A2 are connected, and I entered the register to change it to Active measure mode, but all registers are displayed as 0xFFFF and register value cannot be changed.

The other TMAG5170UEVM was recognized as a TMAG5170APLEVM board when the TMAG5170A1 and TMAG5170A2 were connected respectively, which did not have an Active measurement mode and could not measure the magnetic field strength.

All firmware updates have been completed, and retrying after pressing the reset button on the TI-SCB did not resolve.

I would appreciate it if you could tell me the cause and solution to this problem.

  • Hi,

Thanks for posting to the Sensors forum.

Could you share the value of the TEST_CONFIG register on the register map page for each case?

Are you seeing the same behavior described above regardless of which TI-SCB is used with the different TMAG5170UEVM boards above?

    Best regards,

    Jesse

  • The TEST_CONFIG register values for the 4 boards (TMAG5170A1 board*2, TMAG5170A2 board*2) are all 0x0040.

  • Hi,

Please ensure you disconnect and then reconnect the USB cable from the SCB, or use the each time you change the TMAG5170A1 and TMAG5170A2 boards. This should help ensure the GUI recognizes the A1 and A2 variants correctly. We don't intend for the A1 and A2 boards to be hot-swapped, but if you do, make sure you reset the SCB or disconnect and reconnect the USB cable to the SCB. The TEST_CONFIG value should be 0x0040 for A1 boards and 0x0050 for A2 boards.

Also note that on the register map page in the GUI, the default Auto Read setting is "Off". After configuring the device, if you are looking for the register values to update on the register map page, you will need to change the Auto Read setting or use the READ REGISTER or READ ALL REGISTERS buttons.

The Quick Start Setup section of the TMAG5170UEVM User's Guide should also help to get the EVM up and running.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have additional questions.

    Best regards,

    Jesse
