TMP117: Feasibility testing

Part Number: TMP117

Hello,

We are looking to test the TMP117 using dead-bug soldering to our PCB.

On the PCB, we have GPIOs available for SCL and SDA.

But I noticed that the TMP117 uses another pin, called "ALERT" as shown below:

To test the functionality of the TMP117 and see if we are able to communicate with the IC and obtain temperature readings, is the ALERT pin critical?

If not, would it be possible to get temperature readings we just the SDA and SCL lines?

Thank you.

  • Hi Dennis,

The ALERT is an open-drain output, so it can be left floating if you don't want to use it. The ALERT pin is not critical if all you want to do is communicate to the device and read temperature, so you can leave it floating in this case.

    Thanks
