IWR6843AOP: anti-masking solution

Part Number: IWR6843AOP

Hello.

I'm using IWR6843AOP. The demo is an area scanner, and it's used for human intrusion detection.

I'm curious if there's a way or a demo to detect when the radar is masked so that it can't detect properly.

And when I run the IWR6843AOP as an area scanner demo, regular noise occurs in the IWR6843AOP . What could be the reason for this?

  • Hello,

As far as "masking" detection, the universal solution is to check the range profile. With any Out-of-Box based demo (including Area Scanner), you can enable the Range-Profile output via the guiMonitor cfg command. In the below document, go to the "Manual Interference" section of the safety test report where aluminum foil was used to cover antennas.

For noise, can increase the CFAR threshold value. Think of this threshold as a "power" level a reflection must have in order to be determined as a real reflection. Generally real reflections will have a higher CFAR value than noise, so there is a general sweet spot that the CFAR threshold can be tuned to for your environment where noise is removed yet real detections are not filtered out. The threshold values are the "20" and "15" seen below
