TDC1000-C2000EVM: Method to Better Adjust Clock Frequencies

Part Number: TDC1000-C2000EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDC1000

Tool/software:

Hello!

I am looking for a method to have more flexibility over the clock speed of the TDC1000 chip. Is there any way that the evaluation board can be manipulated so that we can sweep through frequencies instead of only having one 8 MHz clock speed? I am familiar with the ability to divide the clock speed by different divisors in the GUI, but I was hoping to have a much more refined adjustment of the frequencies to be able to better match the output frequency from the evaluation board with the ultrasonic transducer and also to optimize the frequency so that the ultrasonic waves can better penetrate through 304 Stainless Steel, the material of the container I need to use. Does the board have the capabilities to implement a phase lock loop?

Thank you!

  • Hello Advay,

Thanks for posting to the sensors forum! You can use an external clock instead of the 8MHz clock on the EVM board.

This can be reconfigured to use a different clock source by using the JP1 jumper, this will allow you to connect the different clock source via TP19 or the J9 connector. So if you would like to implement a PLL you might be bale to supply it through these connectors but the board does not have anything integrated to implement a PLL.

Also note that metals may require more energy to propagate the signal through the metal and return back to the transducer, TDC1000 is only able to excite the transducer at 5V so it may be necessary to use a larger voltage. We have other devices/EVMs that are capable of driving larger voltages such as the TUSS44x0.

    I hope this helps!

    Best,

    Isaac

  • Thank you very much for this! I will follow up on this after digging a bit deeper as needed!
