HDC3020: HDC3020 chip is very picky about packaging

Part Number: HDC3020

Tool/software:

Dear  Bu

We use HDC3020 for our Product.

We encountered one strange thing   when  HDC3020  is in EVA foam for a period of time, the captured data will increase about 7 rh%, The photo is as follows

As a comparison, we used the Honeywell humidity sensor HIH8121-021,this sensor in Ok when putted in the EVA foam.

  • Hello,

Do you have a specific manufacturer and part number for this foam? I would like to obtain some to study its effects on our sensors. We recommend not storing any of our sensors with pink foam, since the additive that makes it pink is known to negatively impact RH accuracy. The same may be true for this foam, but I want to confirm some details first. Were the sensors stored in a closed box with this foam? Were either of these sensors tested before being placed in the foam?

    Thanks

    -Alex Thompson

  • Thanks for quick reply!

1.Do you have a specific manufacturer and part number for this foam?

Answer:we china  ,tested about 5 types of foam, this form we called EVA in  china,so  in your country is this EVA name, you can tested use your country ‘EVA’,so make ure have some effect .

2.We recommend not storing any of our sensors with pink foam, since the additive that makes it pink is known to negatively impact RH accuracy

Answer:Yeah, also this is not pink foam, very clean,at first, I suspected it was related to pink or some oil stain,So we observed the sensor under a microscope,it‘s ok .

We baked the sensor at a high temperature of 85 degrees Celsius for 4 hours and then placed it indoors for 5 hours, linkely the accuracy returned to the factory precision

3.Were the sensors stored in a closed box with this foam?

Answer:We have conducted experiments in ventilated and sealed environments, the Result is same.the RH  value will increase about 5-10 ,means  The storage time in foam varies, and the accuracy will also differ

  • Hello,

If I send you a friend request on E2E, would you accept and be willing to send me some of this foam? I would like to test it myself with our sensors.

You confirmed that the offset was recoverable with bake? That is good. Does the offset return when placed back into the foam?

    Regards

    -Alex Thompson

  • Hi   Alex

I can prepare some foam for you and send it to you by express delivery,I am very certain that the accuracy will recover after baking for a period of time.

unluckily! if placed back into the foam again, the RH  value will increase about 5-10  one more time, but the offset was recoverable with bake.

So how can I send it to you by express delivery, Through agents or other ways? Or you can give me the address directly and I will send it to you by express delivery?
