LDC0851: Detect Capability

Hi,

Can LDC0851 detect the thin metal wire with a 1.5mm ~ 2.5mm width as a detect capability ?
In addition, I would like to make the sensor and reference coil more smaller.
For instance, the outer diameter is 100mils ~ 200mils.
So, could you please give me your advice about that ?

Hello Kato,

You can use either the LDC Tools spreadsheet (www.ti.com/.../slyc137) or the Webench LDC Coil Designer (www.ti.com/.../inductive-sensing.html) to design the sensor. As for detecting the thin metal, you will need to consider how wide the strip is, how far away it needs to detect, and what is the composition. I would recommend that you evaluate the performance with the LDC0851EVM.
