OPT3101: Could you please tell me how to calibrate?

Hello guys,

One of my customers is evaluating OPT3101 using OPT3101 EVM for their new products.

They are going to replace LED and PD(Photo Diode) on the EVM with LD(Laser Diode-Red color) and other PD which can sense red color well.

They think the OPT3101 is needed to calibrate in that case. They read OPT3101 software manual but they couldn't find how to calibrate it.

Could you please tell me how to calibrate OPT3101 for the customer support?

Hi Kazuya,

Have they taken a look at the calibration document, and tools such as SDK and configurator tool? We also have a lot of training videos posted online. None specifically to doing calibration, but there is one that gives an overview of the calibration resources online: training.ti.com/making-design-easier-introduction-opt3101-documents-and-development-tools at t=6:50 and later.

Hi Kazuya,

The latte software for the EVM is just a GUI so it cannot do calibration. The SDK posted online is a separate software library for doing calibration.

Hi Alex,

I received a few questions about the following documents from the customer.

Could I have your answers for the questions?

Q1, "Cover the photodiode to shild from receiving modulated light" is described in top of Figure 4. Illumination Crosstalk Calibration Procedure on page 7. Does it mean that we need to cover the photodiode by a light shielding cloth or box?

Q2, "Set the device at a reference distance" is described in top of Figure 5. Phase Offset Calibration Procedure on page 9. Does it mean that we need to put any target object at a clearly known distance (for example 1 meter)?
Do you have any picture easy to understand the calibration procedure?

Hi Kazuya,

1) You can find an example of masking the EVM here e2e.ti.com/.../727462
2) You want to put a target that covers the full FoV of the sensor and give a high amplitude reading. We actually have a document that will be going online soon with diagrams of this process.

The customer wants to have any detail document which explains in detail for "Figure 5. Phase Offset Calibration Procedure now" on page9? Do you have it now? Could I have it?
