DRV5013-Q1: Detail of tidu835

Part Number: DRV5013-Q1

Hi Sir,

Per tidu835, pls give some advice about the distance between the magnet and sensor? or pls tell us the distance in this reference. The magnet used in this design, how much is the  magnetic strength?

  • Hello Sara,

Thank you for using the TI forum. In general the magnet needs to be sufficiently close enough to ensure that the sensor will trip. For this design specifically, they don't seem to say the distance they used, however, they do say "The DRV5013AD used in this design has thresholds of ±5mT. System designers should consider the distance between the magnet and sensor, and select an appropriate magnet material and physical size that produces an adequate flux density at the sensor."

The information needed to determine specific field strength of that magnet at a given point is in the "Magnet Characteristics" section. I suppose that Dexter Magnetic Technologies may have more specific magnet info on their website with the magnet part number.
  • Hi Mitch,
Thanks for your reply. I also read the detail. We hope TI can provide the accurate distance in this evm.
  • Hello Sara,

I am not sure of the exact distance, but looking into this design further, it turns out that the magnet is no longer available from the manufacturer, so either way you would need to re-calculate the distance for your specific magnet.  On a general note, excess magnetic field is not bad for the sensor, so you can put the magnet fairly close if desired.
