LDC1101EVM: Connection with LDC1101EVM GUI Windows 10 and Windows 7

Part Number: LDC1101EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LDC1101

Hello,

I'm having issues connecting the LDC1101EVM to PC.

The drivers are installed correctly because I'm able to see that the COM port is recognised as "EVM"

I have also installed the fix patch suggested in other similar threads. The GUI is able to see the device but it is not able to connect and the "Texas Instruments" logo in the bottom right corner goes on blinking in green to the bitter end.

I am experiencing the same issue with both Windows 10 and Windows 7.

Is there anything else I could try?

  • Hello Fabio,

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with the LDC1101EVM GUI. Just to clarify, you are running the GUI as an administrator, correct? The GUI will not work if you are not running it as an administrator.

The GUI can also be sensitive to the NI-VISA Run Time installation. The patch should fix this problem, but you could also try manually installing the program. There are links to the program in this E2E thread:

Please let me know if either of these suggestions work for you.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Kristin,

thank you for your quick answer.

Yes, I am running the program as an admin.

Is the NI-VISA Run Time installation patch the same suggested in the original post I've originated this thread from? Because in that case I've already tried that also.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Kristin,

I apologize to jump in this conversation, but just a question: Do you think LDC1101 is the best choice for coin metal detection?

If not, which other p/n would you suggest that will also be able to use the Sensing Solutions GUI in an easier way than the LDC1101?

    Many Thanks,

    Antonio

  • Hi Antonio,

The LDC1101 is the only device in our portfolio that I'd recommend for coin metal detection. This is because it performs both Rp and L sensing, both of which are required to determine the target material.

    Hi Fabio,

The NI-VISA Run Time is part of the patch you mentioned, but I'd just like to make sure that it's definitely installed correctly before pursuing other possibilities.

I downloaded and run the installer and this window appeared.

I believe this is because I did installed this patch already.

Nevertheless I tried to uninstall the patch and then install it again but nothing changed.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Fabio,

My apologies that this did not work for you. Is it possible for you to order another EVM? You have done everything correctly, so I am not sure what is causing this connectivity problem. I'd like to verify that there isn't a problem with the EVM.

In addition, can you share more details about your application? We may have other devices that are more suitable (and use a different GUI).

    Best Regards,
