AWR2243BOOST: WARMRST and cannot connect to RS232

Hello Glen,

LED status looks correct (RED: 5V, YELLOW: NRST). Apart from that you need to make sure that you have set the board into SOP-2 mode (closing two jumpers on SOP0 & SOP1), power cycle and try to connect RS232.

Select the correct COM port from the drop-down option, which would be emulated as 'Application/UART COM port' in the device manager.

Yes, the proper jumpers are in the proper location, however the YELLOW: NRST light is NOT on. The RED: WARMRST light is on and the board seems to be non functional. Also the proper COM port is being selected from the device manager 'Application/UART COM port' but the mmwave Studio still returns 3 when trying to connect the RS232

I have attached a screenshot showing the appropriate ports are connected and selected but still getting a return 3.

Could you share the EVM picture with the LED status?

And could you set the same board in SOP4 mode (SOP0:1 SOP1:0, SOP2:0) and check the LED status. It is very unlikely that warm-reset LED glows on the AWR2243BOOST EVM.

Post power supply connection, try to press SW2 to reset the board and try connecting from mmWave Studio.

I am unbale to post a photo of the evm right now, however the issue remains the same, I have tried the different SOP mode(SOP0:1 SOP1:0, SOP2:0) and  have the same results, i have a second evm where the WARMRST light is not on and still cannot connect the RS232. I have tried many different approaches and cannot resolve this issue. I am using the appropriate COM port and the connection always returns 3. How can i get the connectivity of the RS232 back and operational?

Hi Glen,

1. Can you please ensure that the COM port used for RS232 connection is not being used by any other application. We have see this happen a couple of times.

2. If that is not the case, try and connect to that COM port through some serial application like Teraterm, to make sure the port is accessible.

3. You can try connecting from a different machine as well

No, i was never able to regain connectivity of the RS232 tried different machines and tried to change com port manually

Hi Glen,

RS232 connection is required in SOP-2 (development mode) only. Although mmWave Studio can work in SOP-4 (functional mode) as well.

If you are using AWR2243 with DCA1000 then you need to have only one jumper on AWR2243BOOST (SOP-0 jumper) and then in the studio follow these steps to configure the device.

1. Click Reset button in Connection TAB (board control). It should toggle the yellow LED of AWR2243BOOST.

2. Directly jump to device connection (without RS232 connection) by pressing 'SPI Connect'.

3. Download the firmware (xwr22xx_metaImage.bin) from 'BSS FW' text field. You can find this firmware file in the mmWave DFP v2.1.5.3

4. Proceed further steps as you were doing earlier.

This way you don't need to rely on RS232 connection and unblock your evaluation process.
