TDC7201-ZAX-EVM: MSP430 Firmware Update is not possible

Hello,

I use the TDC7201-ZAX-EVM with MSP-EXP430FR2355.

I installed the TDC7201EVM Software (TDC720xEVM GUI Installer v2.1.8.0 (Rev. E)) from the ti Website.

Now I want to flash the MSP-EXP430FR2355 with the firmware. I tested it like in the manual on point "4.2 MSP430 Firmware Upgrade".

The problem is, if I press the BSL Button (S3) and connect the USB cable to the PC, the Firmware Update Software does not find the device. "No device connectet" is shown.

But in the Windows device manager, there are two devices: "MSP Application UART 1 (COM12)" and "MSP Debug Interface (COM12)".

Have somebody some information how to flash the firmware? Maybe the connection settings are wrong, but which are the right settings?

    Can you confirm which msp430 launchpad you are using? 

    S3 on this board is the reset button.

    I use the MSP-EXP430FR2355.

    I know that S3 is the reset button. Is it wrong to press the S3 button while plug in the USB cable?

    Joel,

    On the MSP430F5529 BSL is short for bootloader, so holding the reset button would not work. 

    Here are some steps you can try since you are not using the MSP430F5529. I was able to connect to the GUI, configure and run the EVM after following these steps with the MSP430F5529, but I am not sure the code will run on your MSP430 or not. 

    1. Download and setup UniFlash

    2. Open UniFlash and connect the board to your PC. Wait 10 seconds, UniFlash should recognize the MSP430. If it does not recognize it, try installing CCS and MSP430ware if you haven't yet, and then try again. 

    3. Once UniFlash detects our device, click 'start' and you should be able to flash a FW image from here. 

    4. click 'browse' to find the image: C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\TDC720xEVM\Firmware\TDC720xEVM_Firmware_Source-v2.07\CCS\TDC7200EVM_USB\Debug\TDC7200EVM_USB.out and then click 'load' to flash the msp430. 

    5. Wait a little after it completes, close UniFlash and open the EVM GUI, you should see a new COM port available now on the 'setup' tab under the SERIAL PORT menu. 

    6. If the EVM does not automatically connect, select the new COM port and click connect. Then go to the 'debug' tab and click READ ALL to test the firmware.

    Hello Gabriel,

    the UniFlash Software didn't recognize the MSP-EXP430FR2355 too. I tested it with installed CCS ans MSP430 ware too.

    I will ordner a MSP430F552x or MSP430F551x baord and hope, that the EVM GUI will recognize it and a firmware update is possible.

    Hi Joel,

    The firmware was written for the MSP430F5529, so I recommend ordering that one to evaluate the product.
