Hello Sreenath,

Which configuration you are using with SRR demo? USRR config will be of short range whereas SRR config for medium range (<80m).

But this again depends on the type of object and angle at which those objects are.

Could you first check with SRR configuration and a strong object beyond 12m range placing your board at zero angle?

Hi,

We are using the the configuration with both SRR and USRR configuration.

and we checked the same  with a car approaching the mmWave radar card at  30kmph(0 degree angle) and the device  started tracking it only when the car entered is at 12m range.

I don't know why this is happening

Have you used the same PCB material and antenna as the one on the TI design? What all have you modified on the HW?

Hi,

Yes we have followed the same stackup details as referred in "RFCMOS 77 GHz reference design".

We have used the same dielectric material for antennae(RO4835LowPro).

Modifications in HW :

1) Reduced the form factor of PCB to  57mm X 57mm

2) We have included RS485 interface.

3) We have included FT232 chip

4) We have excluded TCAN4550 section from schematic.

5) Removed R27 resistor connected to PG1 since we were not able to release reset (for flashing firmware)

Hello Sreenath,

Are you using the default config settings of the SRR demo?

The detection can fail if the noise level is too high (due to PCB noise or some other reason ) or the signal level is too low (possibly due to antenna gain being low ). If you can share a 2D FFT plot (if you are using matlab to analyze the data a .fig file would be preferable) of a frame and  a 1D FFT plot of a chirp we could see the noise floor and the object peak level.

Have you tried the same experiment with AWR1642BOOST board from TI? That might give you a performance comparison.

We don't have any provision to find out about the PCB noise and Antenna gain.

How can I get the 2D FFT   of frame (.fig file) and 1D FFT of chirp?

Yes we also tried the same experiment on AWR1642 Boost and it seems to work fine.

Hello Sreenath,

You would have to look at the SRR code and add code to send out the 1D FFT data over some interface that you have access to on your board. Like UART or CAN. Most likely either the noise level is high on the board or the antenna etching is poor and causing lower antenna gain on your board.

Hello Sreenath,

ID/2D  FFT are get stored on L3 memory which also can be access via MSS and send further over UART. But speed would be much slower, so you need to provide much higher chirp/frame idle time to avoid any conflict.
