TMP468: D+ Unconnected/Unused

Part Number: TMP468

Hello,

I have a question about leaving unused inputs floating.

The datasheet clearly states that unused inputs should be connected to D-.    This is to ensure that over-temperature thresholds are needlessly triggered.

I have a design which has D+ floating on one of the inputs.   This channel is unused.

A few questions:

1. Can I ignore errors at startup and then disable the open-channel via the configuration registers?

2. Will the open channel impact measurement accuracy on other channels when disabled?

3. Is there anything else I should be concerned about?

  • Hi Don,

    Below is my feedback.

Yes, leaving the pin floating will set OPEN bits for their respective channels.  You can ignore them OPEN bits and disable the channels using the configuration register.  The set OPEN bits should then reset to 0.

Open channels should not affect on any other channels temperature accuracy.

After disabling the unused floating channels I have no other concerns with device operation.

    Thanks,
