TMUX7211: Thermal Pad Connection

Hello team,

I have a question about thermal pad connection of TMUX7211RUM and TMUX6211RUM.

Datasheet's pin description recommends the pad be left floating or tied to GND if connected.

Could you confirm below my questions for both parts?

  • Why is above connection recommended, though the pad is not connected internally?
  • Is there any concern when the pad be tied to Vss?

    Hey Taketo,

    No concern here. I believe the note in the datasheet is more of a general guideline but not necessarily an absolute requirement. Typically you'd tie it to the lowest potential (VSS in this case) in some applications where you may have higher frequencies present, as to not allow the floating pad to act as essentially antennae. As you mentioned though, the pad isn't connected internally, so tying it to VSS should be fine.
