TMUX7212: TMUX7212

Part Number: TMUX7212
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMUX8212, TMUX7412F

Hello,

I'm confued about Vs/Vd(Source or drain voltage (Sx, Dx)). If the TMUX7212 is unpowered, there is a risk of damaging the device when the I/O voltage exceeds the VDD/VSS supplies by more than 0.5V. How to understand VDD/VSS maximum value. Based on datasheet, that is to say the device will damage if exceeds 48.5V/-48.5V? if VDD/VSS powered with ±15V, What's the maxiumum value for Vs/Vd(Source or drain voltage (Sx, Dx))? it can be calmped by internal diode to ±15V, if there are ±45V pulse input for Source or drain voltage (Sx, Dx),I want to know if diode-calmped will be damaged. Looking forward to your reply ASAP.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards.

  • Hello,

1.Yes if the device is unpowered and voltage are present on io pins there is a risk of damaging the device. To prevent this some of Ti's multiplexers have a feature called power off protection

    2. Additionally, this device also lacks a feature called overvoltage protection which makes sure no damage happens to the device if the voltage on the io pins exceeds the supply(vdd/vss) voltage  (when vdd is supplied power.)

3.Yes permanent damage can occur if the device exceeds the abs max ratings (ex.+-48.5v supplies). In addition VDD and VSS can be any value as long as 4.5 V ≤ (VDD – VSS) ≤ 44 V, and the minimum VDD is met.

4.This device can pass any signals from vss to vdd. so -15v to 15v if vdd/vss is powered +/-15v.

5.No you will need an overvoltage protection device for this

it can be calmped by internal diode to ±15V, if there are ±45V pulse input for Source or drain voltage (Sx, Dx),I want to know if diode-calmped will be damaged. Looking forward to your reply ASAP.

Can you please tell me more about your application so I can help more.

    Regards

  • Hello,

    Thanks for your support.

Currently we powered deviice with ±15V, but input voltage of Sx pin will up to ±45V. I want to know if overvoltage protection can make sure no damage happen to device? Pls help to check TMUX8212 if it is ok on this condition. thanks.

  • Hello Jie,

For this application please use the TMUX7412F which will have the overvoltage protection. It can be powered to +-15v supply and protect against +-45v on s pin

Please let me know if you have any further questions!
