CD4051BM96 chip input pin damage, possible cause analysis

Failure phenomenon: 4851 chip's input IO (Y4) to the VEE pin (pin 7) resistance becomes small, measured resistance value of tens of ohms;

Please assist in analyzing the possible causes of failure;
The interface circuit is as follows: there is no string resistance added between the port and the analog switch pin, could this be the main reason?

  • All I/O pins have clamping diodes to VDD and VEE. It is possible that a negative voltage at pin Y4 (more negative than VEE) damaged the diode.

    It is also possible (but much less likely) that over-/undervoltage on some other pin caused this damage.
