Code Composer Studio Upgrade from 3.3 to 5.?

I am using CCS 3.3. It came free with my Piccolo ControlCard and Docking Station.

It was recently suggested here http://e2e.ti.com/support/development_tools/code_composer_studio/f/81/p/241747/848275.aspx#848275 that I upgrade to version 5.

Will that versions still be free?

I have setup my 3.3 with a lot of customized stuff (colors, fonts, work spaces, etc...) will those port over as well?

Is there a place I can go to see what will interfere from the old to the new installation?

Also, assuming I upgrade, what order do I do? Install V5 first, then delete V3 (so V3 has V5 setup information available?) Or delete V3 first (somehow retaining the customization so I can change 5 later?)

If I install 5 first, then uninstall 3, will the uninstall remove the customization stuff or otherwise confuse 5?

Thanks.

Mark.

  • Hi Mark,

moving from CCSv3 to v5 is a very large step.    CCSv5 is now eclipse based which v3 was not.  This unfortunately means you will loose your colouring and customization.  Licensing ... whether you can use v5 free depends on your current license situation as well as the hardware you use.  If you use the XDS100 v5 is free to use with this emulator.  Otherwise you will have to see if you have a purchased license and active subscription.

My recommendation .... CCS has come a long way.  I would at least try the latest v5 and install it into a separate directory.  No need to remover CCSv3 from your system.

    Does this help?

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • Lisa:

It is unclear if the Docking Station is XDS100 based, and therefore V5 may not work.

I will try it sometime in the future.

As for Licensing, I did not purchase a separate license with the Docking Station and ControlCard. I don't know if V5 will know about it. I will let you know when I try it someday.

V3.3 seems to be working fine for my needs.

    Thanks, Mark.

  • Hi Mark,

I believe it should be an XDS100, might be worth a try in your own time.  As I mentioned, no need to remove v3 no matter what you decide moving forward.
