Hi, guys!

We've recently upgraded the PCs in our university lab with Windows 10, 32-bit. I have entire course built on MSP-EXP430FR5739 board and now I experience terrible problems with the USB FET drivers.

When I try to debug my program first I get:

MSP430: Error initializing emulator: Could not find MSP-FET430UIF on specified COM port.

I go to the Project -> Properties -> General and I try to select from the drop-down menu "Connection" [TI MSP430 USB2] or [TI MSP430 USB3]. But then I get the error:

MSP430: Error initializing emulator: Tried to initialize USB FET number 2, but only found 1 USB FETs

I have a physical RS-232, I have no problems in the device manager, I see the MSP430 virtual COM (and it works fine). I have IAR for MSP430 also installed on the machines (also doesn't work). My CCS version is 6.2.0.00050.

Funny thing I noticed - If I use [TI MSP430 USB1] and if I start a Tera Term on the MSP430's virtual COM port WHILE the debugger is starting it succeeds.

Any help is appreciated!

how many debug probes or MSP430FR5739 Launchpads you have connected to your system?

Hi Lubomir,

If you have only one debug probe connected to your system you always should use TI MSP430 USB1.

The MSP-EXP430FR5739 uses a HID connection for debug access. The com port is the serial backchannel UART connection.

Can you please do an update of you FET drivers.

This can be found here www.ti.com/.../mspds

Please download MSPDS-USB-DRIVERS version 1.0.1.0.

Hello again,
unfortunately the above driver do not work. But I noticed something in the Device manager in the HID device event log:

Is your USB port a native USB3.0 port?

Unfortunately NO, it's not! The PC is a bit outdated and has only USB 2.0.

I'm writing because I found this thread while troubleshooting the same problem. I'm running Windows 10, 64-bit, CCS V7 on a machine with native USB 3.0 ports and I'm using the built-in USB debug connection on the TI Experimenter board for the MSP430FR5739.

I can only successfully load a program to the MSP430 about 10% of the time. I've found that I can sometimes debug after rebooting the computer or switching the USB port into which the experimenter board is connected. The remaining 90% of the time I either get an error indicating that no debugger can be found or the system simply hangs during the load process.

The exact same experimenter board works flawlessly using CC6 on a Windows 7 machine with USB 2.0 ports.

Since you asked the original poster about the USB ports, I'm wondering if my USB 3.0 ports are connected with the issue.

Hello, Eric,

I'm not an expert in Windows drivers BUT I'm getting the errors, mentioned above, on a USB 2.0 as well. So I believe it's a software problem...
