CCS: CCS 8.3 - cant update CCS or connect to CCS App Center

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi, Ive insta;;ed the lates CCS 8.3 but I cant seem to update it because I get the following error after running update.

Some sites could not be found. See the error log for more detail.
Unable to read repository at software-dl.ti.com/.../content.xml.
Address family not supported by protocol family: connect
Unable to read repository at software-dl.ti.com/.../content.xml.

I also cant connect CCS App Center.

My internet is working fine and nothing is obviously preventing CCS from accessing the net (I checked my firewall options and disable my antivirus Mcafee). Ive also tried reinstalling CCS a few times and it hasnt helped.

OS: Win10

Installer: offline CCS 8.3 (installed all components)

  • Hi Stevan,
Are you able to play the CCS intro youtube video inside the Getting Started view?
    software-dl.ti.com/.../ccs_getting-started.html

    Thanks
    ki
  • Hi Ki,

Yes I can. No problems with that.

  • Thanks for checking. Yes it looks like CCS can access external sites. Regarding App Center, do you get some error messaging about failing to connect? Or is it just blank?
  • Stevan,
You mentioned that you checked your firewall. Did you check the Proxy Information for CCS?
    processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Updating_CCSv5

    ki
  • Hi Ki,

I dont have a proxy but the settings seem to be ok. Funny thing is when i turn off my McAfee firewall i still cant connect through....

  • Hi Stevan,

Sounds like eclipse can't access the internet due to proxy setting. The Getting Started page uses the system proxy setting, it is not tied to eclipse proxy setting.

Did you try changing the proxy setting in eclipse? Open the Preferences dialog, type proxy in the search text box, select the Network Connection node in the tree, and try manually entering the proxy setting the the dialog.

    Regards,
    Patrick

  • Hi Patrick,

Im not clear with exactly what you want me to do so here are a few questions that i have:

    1. Im not sure what you mean by 'eclipse' exactly, see below plz.

[PC] "Did you try changing the proxy setting in eclipse?"

[SP]: No i dont think Ive launched eclipse just ccs studio. Should i launch eclipse instead of ccs to try and fix this? I can see that in ti>ccsv8>eclipse i have the ccstudio and eclipse applications. please clarify

    2. Below is my Network Connections settings in eclipse (it seems to be the same for ccstudio) as they are initially set up. Does this look good to you?

  • Hi Stevan,

Start CCS by running the ccstudio executable. In the same preference dialog, change the Active Provider to Manual in the drop list and enter your proxy setting for HTTP and HTTPS. That is if you are using proxy.

    Patrick

  • Hi Patrick,

Ive tried that as well and still the same problem. Im confused why the proxy is being brought up by you and Ki since ive said i dont use any proxy. And the obly firewall i have is mcafee which even when i turn off ccs still cant access updates or the ccs app page.

  • Stevan,
The issue where you cannot access updates or access the App Center page is due to that something is blocking Eclipse from accessing the internet. In some cases, the Eclipse proxy settings could be impacting things. The Getting Started page apparently uses only the system proxy setting and bypasses the Eclipse settings, which means if you can access the internet normally on your PC, then the Getting Started page should be fine. Hence why we were focusing on the Eclipse proxy settings. You mention that no proxy is being used and firewall is disabled. Are you running you machine from home and not connected to any work network?

    ki
  • Hi Ki,

    Thank u for clarifying.

Yes im running this on my home pc which has no proxy.

  • Stevan,
Sorry for the slow progress on this. I really don't know what the issue could be if you are in a home environment with no proxy and security software disabled. I am trying to come up with suggestions, but struggling a bit. Are you able to access online content in the Eclipse Marketplace (Help -> Eclipse Marketplace)?

    ki
  • Hi,

No. I cant access it. Seems to be a connection issue. CCS is reporting that there is no internet connection. Its really odd bcoz i do have internet. I tried disabling the mcafee firewall and that didnt help either

  • For some reason, Eclipse (the framework for the CCS IDE) is having issues accessing the internet. This is odd since you mentioned you are not behind a proxy and you tried disabling any antivirus and firewall. Something is blocking access.

I looked around regarding Eclipse internet access issues and there were a wide variety of reports.

There was one mention of setting the proxy to manual and clearing the proxy settings for SOCKS:

    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/5857499/how-do-i-have-to-configure-the-proxy-settings-so-eclipse-can-download-new-plugin

    Other threads:

    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/7778484/eclipse-can-not-connect-to-internet

There was the below solution that worked for some:

I had same issue. I solved it with following steps:

    1. Window -> Preferences -> Secure Storage

    2. Tab - Contents

    3. Delete [Default Secure Storage]

    4. Restart Eclipse

Don't worry - Storage will be re-created automatically.

  • Hi Ki,

I tried tgose options but no luck updating or accessing the app store. I do have access to the internet thru the ccs internal web browser tho. Why i cant access the other stuff is odd. This is mind boggling.

  • It really is odd. I am grasping at straws here now. Can you try logging in as an administrator (if you do not have admin rights)? If that fails, cayou trying re-installing CCS? I would recommend installing the new 9.0.1 install.
  • Hi Stevan,
Just curious if you had a chance to try as admin, or try installing CCSv9.0.1.

    Thanks
    ki
  • Hello,
I haven’t heard back from you, hence this issue is being closed. If you wish to continue the discussion, please post a reply with an update below (or create a new thread).

    Thanks,
    ki
  • Hi ki,

Same issues with 9.0. Stilll looking for an answer online.

  • Stevan,
I've very sorry for the inaction on this but I'm afraid I cannot offer any more suggestions on how to resolve this issue. Something in your environment is blocking Eclipse from accessing the internet and none of the usual suggestions (Eclipse proxy, disable firewall/antivirus, etc) have made a difference. While there have been various reports of other Eclipse users with similar issues, we are not sure which (if any) apply to your environment. The only other thing I can offer is if you need any SW package that you would normally get via Update / App Center / Resource Explorer, please let me know which ones you need and I can try an provide a direct link to download it outside CCS/Eclipse so that you can install it manually and use it with CCS. Sorry for the great inconvenience.

  • Hi Ki,

At this point im thinking of waiting a few more weeks until i change my antivrius software package and see if that helps. Atm im using mcafee and i will be moving away to sonethibg else (price increased significantly). I will update once i see if that fixes it.

  • Changing the antivirus could have some impact. But I am not optimistic since you have already tried disabling it and also because we have many other customers who have used it without issue. But each system is different so you never know. Hoping for the best and please keep us posted.
