MSP430 controlled Texas instruments EV2400 HPA500 problem

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EV2400, BQSTUDIO

Dear TI,

Good day.

We are using the tool board of the above product. (MSP430 controlled Texas instruments EV2400 HPA500)
we didn't have any special problems. However, the error and the problem occurred as follows.

1) Error message : Timeout or unexpected response communicating with device

2) Scanning : It scans very slowly at 30%~.

Do you know what`s problem?

Please help me.

Thanks.

  • Hi Kim,

Are you getting this error message from bqStudio? At what point do you receive the error message - all the time or during specific events? Have you downloaded and installed the latest version of the EV2400 firmware (v0.28)?

Regarding scanning, can you explain what you mean by 30%?

A detailed description of the issues you are observing can help us better understand the problem and provide suggestions.

    Best regards,
    Matt
  • Hi Kim,

Were you able to make progress on this issue?

    Matt
  • Dear TI members,

    Thank you for your effort.

We connected the BMU, However the message below is causing the scanning to be slowed.

Connecting to a different tool board works well. This is the reason for the problem of tool board.

  • Dear Sunna,

    Good day.

    Please check again~.

  • Hi Kim,

I'm sorry - since you had marked it as Resolved, I thought you had found the issue. I talked with our tools team - they said that Timeout Errors usually point to something wrong with the EV2400, the USB, or the target EVM hardware/firmware.

If I understand correctly, you said the problem was not showing when you tried a different board? In that case, can you try to reload the firmware on the board that shows the issue? Some other things you can try if the problem is not specific to one board:
    - Update the EV2400 to the latest firmware (v0.28). Rewrite your device firmware (I'm not sure which device you are using) using the Firmware screen on BQStudio. Try the board showing the issue on a different PC. Try the board with a different EV2400. Replace the device - if the device is damaged in some way, it could cause an issue. The goal is to isolate down to the root cause.

    Best regards,
    Matt
  • Dear Matt Sunna,

    Thank you for your effort~^^.
We've done it all. The same thing goes on.
I did a different PC, a different device, a Re-write FW, but it's the same. Can we repair this or get an A/S? (in Korea)
We now have two boards all this problem. Help me. I need your help.
  • Hi Kim,

Can you help clarify for me the combinations you have checked. Sorry, I am a little confused. You had said before connecting to a different tool board works well. Do you mean to say a different EV2400 is working well? Are you asking if the EV2400 can be repaired?

    Thanks,
    Matt
  • Hi matt,

    Oh..sorry.

    I'll summarize it again.

    1) We have the same problem with EV2400. (Scanning slowly, Time out error massage)

    2) We updated the FW on the EV2400 again, but the same problem occurred.

    3) We changed the PC and did TEST, but we had the same problem.

    4) I was wondering if DEVICE was the problem. I did test with EV2300, but DEVICE is no problem.

    5) If this is a EV2400 problem, we would like to know how to get the EV2400 repaired.

    Please help.

    Thank you very much.

  • Hi Kim,

If the EV2300 is working with no problem, then I agree the problem is most likely with your EV2400.

One thing to consider - I believe the EV2400 has pullup resistors to 3.3V on the SCL/SDA pins while the EV2300 does not. You should check to see if this could be causing an issue if you also have pullup resistors on your board. Maybe transactions are not always successful if the signal voltage is not correct.

If the EV2400 appears to be damaged, there are a few options:
    - This thread goes through some of the details for debugging and repairing an EV2400: e2e.ti.com/.../722142
    - TI recently released the build files (schematic, layout, etc.) for the EV2400. They are available here if you want to build new ones at a lower cost: https://www.ti.com/tool/ev2400
    - You can contact TI Support to let them know about the issue and see if a replacement is possible

    Best regards,
    Matt
