TIDEP-0091: Are threre any software parameters to increase taget signal magnitude and decrease noise in solid measuring environment?

Part Number: TIDEP-0091
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR1443,

We are developing a radar level transmitter using IWR1443 TIDEP-0091 for coal bunker measurement.

The coal bunker is 35 meters high. The radar level transmitter is mounted on the top of bunker.

We designed a PTFE lens for iwr1443. The diameter of the lens is 80mm, and focal length is 32mm, Beam width is 2.3° according to the  simulation.

We increase profileCfg->rxGain from 44 default in DEMO_CONFIG100 to 52(or 116), but the ehco wave is very flat, no peak.

Are threre any software parameters to increase taget signal magnitude and decrease noise in solid measuring environment?

  • Hello

There are numerous factors that affect that detection of the object and just identifying a single parameter may not necessarily change the possibility of detection.

You may have to take the following into account:

    1.  effect of the lens on the radiation pattern.

    2.  Response of surface of interest to the RF waves and SNR.   Incident angle, orientation of sensor etc, appearance of object in Heatmap (See OOB demo)

Once you have a fair idea of how the object + surrounding fair in the mmWave view then a better detection scheme can be implemented.

Available values of the various Chirp configuration parameters are called out in:

    SDK UG : mmwave_sdk_user_guide.pdf

    Thank you
