TIDA-01513: Basic/Reinforced isolation

Hi All,

From the TIDA-01513, it mentioned that the basic or Reinforced isolation is used depends on peak voltage or voltage rating.

For normal 3 phase with 380VAC or 800VDC input for DC-DC side or HV battery, may I know how to judge which isolation shall we use?

Especially for below scenario,

1.  800V GND -> 12V GND

2.  800V GND -> Outer shell GND

Because we have to consider creepage distance so we want to figure out what kind of isolation we should use for above case.

And since we also recommend to use basic isolation between HV GND side and 12V GND then what scenario might not recommend to use basic isolation for same location?

  • To my understanding, For II kind of device, is should meet the requirement of Reinforced isolation.

    I recommend to consult a qualified functional safety engineer in your company to analyze the functional safety of your system.

    Let me cite from the TIDA-01513 design guide: "The level of isolation in systems completely depends on the application, subsystem location within the vehicle, and the effective peak operating voltage".

    Means the voltage is one aspect to it, but there is more to that question. If reinforced or basic isolation also asks for the safety relevance: what is the associated risk of a failing isolation to functional and personnel safety.
