UCC28750: PWM Controller recommendation

Part Number: UCC28750
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28742, , UCC28740, UCC28600, UCC28730

Hello,

My customer is looking for a PWM controller under the following conditions.

    - topology :  Isolated Flyback

    - VIN : DC 700~800V

    - VOUT : Use 4 to 5 values between DC 5V and 12V (ex 12V, 5V, etc.)

    - Power : 30~40W

    - External FET

    - They do not prefer products with small packages due to concerns about heat generation.

Could you please recommend a suitable product among TI products?

Thank you.

JH

  • Hello,

I have been working with this device and I have a question. Have you managed to do any simulation of the component in LTSpice or TINA?
The manufacturer (Texas Instruments) does not provide any PSCPICE or similar file.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Hello Portillo,

I think your inquiry has little relevance to the inquiry in this post. I recommend that you open a separate new post to contact TI.

For reference, there is a way to utilize TI Webench or EVM.

    Thanks,

  • Hi JH Shin,

    Thank you for reaching out.

With external FET there are a lot of options. It depends of whether they want to use a primary side vs secondary side regulation.

UCC28750 is the low cost flyback controller and similar devices like UCC28740 and UCC28742 can also fit this application.

If quasi resonant switching is needed, UCC28600 could also be used.

If primary side regulation is needed UCC28730/10/00 are all options which can meeting  this requirement.

The above approximately meets the requirement with secondary side regulation

The above uses PSR as an example.

  • Hi Harish,

    Thank you for your help.

The customer is concerned about heat issues because the packages, such as UCC28750 and UCC28740, are small.

Is there a separate guide to resolve heating issues?

Could you please introduce additional packaged products that are resistant to heat generation?

    Best Regards,

    JH

  • Hi JH Shin,

    Thank you for reaching out.

All packages are similar to this and it is used by most customers. As a good practice it will be better to avoid putting this under transformer or near to FETs which can thermally affect the controller.
