For the integrated FET parts I support, we usually have a transient specification for the switching node. I expect that the high side and low side drive outputs of the controllers would have similar requirements. The absolute maximum ratings are taken directly from the process specification manual. They are long term dc ratings.
I'll see if I can get you a specific answer for TPS40195.
Hello John san,
I talked to an IC designer. He is not the origianl designer of TPS40195, but is taking over that product line. We do not have any specific data for that pin. We do get similar inquiries often. It is difficult to predict the actual undershoot internal to the IC as you cannot bypass the internal bondwires or use an infinitely short ground return for your probe. The spec in teh datasheet is for long term DC voltage. We have many, many users of TPS40195 operating in similar conditions. So far as I know, there are no known failurs due to these type of transient voltages on the gate drive pins.
