TINA/Spice/LM3401: Simulation using reference BOM

Guru 16770 points
Part Number: LM3401
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI,

Tool/software: TINA-TI or Spice Models

Hi

The customer downloaded TINA-TI simulation model and they are about to simulate their circuit configuration.

The reference circuit that the customer wants to simulate is just a schematic offered by AN-1657 LM3401 Demo Board but BOM is not default.

They want to use BOM listed in Table 3 from user guide. (The BOM for 3.5A application)

Then, they are asking the followings.

1. Could you offer simulation circuit using BOM listed in Table 3 which is for 3.5A application?

2. Or could you tell us a way to modify component to be capable of corresponding to the specification for 3.5A application?

BestRegards

  • Hi,

PFA the simulation circuit using Table 3 BOM in the user guide (3.5A application) snvmbe7.tsc

Kindly note that we have made the following changes in test bench to make it work

    1. PFET (Q1) used in the test bench is a TINA standard MOSFET, as PFET(Si2319DS) is not working properly in 3.5A application and PFET (Si3493BDV) spice model is unavailable. Also we have increased the value of Kp for the PFET Q1 to make it work.

    2.  Diode D1 is kept same as default BOM, as Diode (SSB43L) spice model is unavailable.

Also FYI, if we need to change the value of any component used in the test bench, we need to double click on it. A window will open. We can change the respective values of parameters in the window.

For example, if we need to change the value of a capacitor

STEP 1: Double click on the component

STEP 2: Change the value of capacitance in the opened window

    STEP 3: Click OK.

Kindly let us know if you have any questions.

    Thanks & Regards,

  • Hi Arpan

    Thank you for your update.

Your schematic file for 3.5A application can be good reference for us.
Can you see the following request?

The customer is considering LD driven by LM3401 as follows.

    Vf = 2V, If = 3A

The design you attached has D2, so we want to change D2 to meet Vf=2V, If=3A.

Do you have such a symbol?

Or we will try to change component values.
Is it no problem to change a value for any diode symbols?

    BestRegards
  • Hi,

We will look into this and get back to you shortly.

  • Hi Na,

Please try to import model from manufacturer of corresponding LED.

    Thanks & Regards,

  • Hi Arpan

    Thank you for your reply.

Is it difficult to customize default diode model with Vf = 2V, If = 3A by ourselves?

    BestRegards
  • Hi Na,

Below are the steps of how you can customise a default diode model.

Kindly note that Vf and If parameters are not available directly. You would need to tweak the above parameters to customise the LED with Vf=2V & If=3A.
