WEBENCH® Tools/TPS54560: is TPS54560 design verifierad in webench?

Part Number: TPS54560

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hi,

I have more or less copied a design from webbench for the TPS54560 (se attached files).  (I have just added a schottky diode for saftey, but same problem occurs if i remove it or not so should not be the problem)

But when I test the design in reality I don't get 3.3V at the capacitor named "Cou1" (see schematic).

have these webbench design been varified?

or anyone see anything else I do wrong?

  • Hi Martin,

Can you share the range of Vin and also Iout for your design? Alternatively, it would be easier if you can also share the WEBENCH design with us so we can use that to check stable operation for the chosen components. In the new tool, you can do so by clicking on Export -> Click on Share Design button -> and share public URL.

  • 3V3 regulator.zipHi,

Well I had a look at this before the summer so I am not sure about the Iout.. I think I choose Iout to around 1 to 1.5 amp.. Sorry, can´t remember.

The input is 24VDC. So I choose a input range for 22 to 26 Volt.

I downloaded the altium schematic file from your page. I attach that altium schematic file also.

I will try to see if i can get the page to regenerate the same file (as I don´t remember exactly the Iout I choose and also TI have changed the page so it´s not so easy. But I will try to get the same design. But maybe it is not possible since you changed the page(?))

  • Hi Martin,

Thanks for sharing. You can access both the Flash and HTML tool and you can access prior designs from both tools.

    HTML tool: webench.ti.com/.../
    Flash tool: webench.ti.com/.../webench5.cgi

But with your inputs and BOM, I created a design to match your components here with 1.5A Iout: webench.ti.com/.../SDP.cgi I could not find any issues as such except the steady state ripple is quite high due to the high ESR cap chosen and may be reducing that is a good idea. I will try to get a hold of an applications expert for this device to further debug the matter. They might need more information from you at the time.

  • Hi Martin,

Is the problem arise when you have load or no load?

What output voltage do you see?

Do you have any scope capture of the SW pin?

I can see that you have thin traces from the SW pin to the output as well the boot capacitor is located further away. Could you install the boot capacitor between BOOT pin and SW pin closer and see if that makes a difference?

    Thanks

  • Hi,

    Thank you for your answers.

But I have found the problem =)
There seems to have been some problems with the part and it was malfunctioning.
Since I could not see any reason why the design should not work I decided to buy a few new fresh parts and try.
And when I removed the old TPS54560 and replacet it with a new (not changing anything else in the cirquit) it worked directly.

something in the handling or manufacturing of the old part must have broken it.

But anyway: now it works =)
