CCS/TIDA-010042: Older Compiler version 18.1.2.LTS not being discovered

Part Number: TIDA-010042
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-EXP430FR2433, MSP430F5132, MSP430FR2433,

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

I am programming my MSP430F5132 device on a breakout board using spy bi-wire. I am using MSP-EXP430FR2433 launchpad. I downloaded the compiler version I needed but CCS is not discovering it?

How do I find the directory where the compiler version was installed?

Also, how can I verify I have succesfully programmed my MSP430 device using Sp-bi-wire before I order the complete board?

Thanks

  • Hi Amar,

If you have it installed in the directory below (your version of ccs may be different), then CCS will discover it.  Here is where it is on my computer.

You can verify this in CCS by clicking on the project properties - see here.

It sounds like you are using the MSP430FR2433 launchpad to program the MSP430F5132 using the spy-by-wire, so if there are any problems during the programming, you will see an error.  I'm assuming you are programming the example code that comes with the TIDA-010042 reference design, in which case you should be good to go.

    Does this answer your questions?

  • CCS is not discovering compiler

    18.1.2.LTS

I am using 18.12.3 compiler but want to switch over to 18.1.2.LTS.

Can you please run over the process of how I can make CCS discover it and make the warning go away. I have tried downloading it through Help->Install New software

As you can see, CCS does not recognize the downloaded compiler

I tried adding the path but could not find it?

How do I get CCS to allow me to select the right compiler version so my warning goes away?

    Thanks

  • Hi Amar,

I don't see in your last screen shot that version of compiler, so I suspect that's why it's not seeing it.  There should be a directory named ti-cgt-msp430_18.1.2.LTS if you installed it.

On my computer I copied that version into the ccs\tools\compiler directory.   When I launch CCS, the ide looks for new installed tools (in this case the compiler) and adds it to the proper properties and are available for selection in the compiler drop-down list.

I guess a better question why don't you just select the latest compiler instead of trying to install this older version?
