TIDA-00380: SMA external antenna

Part Number: TIDA-00380
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3100MOD

Hello,

A customer of mine is going to manufacture the TIDA-00380 board.

They are asking the following:

In order to enable the SMA external antenna on the board, There are same missing components which are not assembled like: J6 – SMA connector,C17 and R13.

Which SMA antenna do you recommend?

In what components did TI test the SMA option?

*This question above is about the values of the components that are actually used to the RF matching to the SMA connector.

  • Hi Victor,

The SMA connector, J6, is intended for conducted RF testing, so we did not test this with an SMA antenna.

In order to use the module's certification, the antenna gain must not exceed 1.9dBi for FCC/ISED and 2.14dBi for ETSI, for example. Please take advantage of our CC3xxx Certification page for certification support and access to the CC3100MOD certification reports.

Note that the 10pF (C17) and 3.6nH (L3) matching components were used on our specific design. Since the stackup of the customer's board will differ and they also plan on using an SMA antenna, it is recommended that they do their own antenna matching to determine which components to use.

    BR,

    Seong
