RF430FRL152H: VDD2X current capability

Hello,

I'd like to use the RF430FRL152H for an implantable application and I'd like to power a high current device that can pull up to 20 mA instantaneous current and up to 5mA DC current from VDD2X. Would that be a problem for this IC? What is the maximum current capacity of the VDD2X pin. Does VDDSW/VDDB have more current capacity? I'm also planning on using a boost converter to bump the voltage from 1.5 (or 2.9) to 10V do you foresee any issues by doing this with that chip?

Your required current can not be sourced directly from the RF430FRL152H. Please see the FAQ guide for the RF430FRL152H www.ti.com/lit/an/sloa247c/sloa247c.pdf chapter 2.4 - How much power can be sourced from the RF430FRL15xH

If you harvest directly from the antenna you can get more energy but if your required current is possible depends on many factors, like output power of the reader on the other side, antenna sizes, coupling, distance and so on and has to be evaluated in your system.

Thanks for your reply, that answers my question.

WOuld you happen to offer any application notes or directions on how to interface an external RF harvester/reectifier so that I can collect power from the antenna with the harvester but communicate using the NFC chip?

Hello Lefteris,

Please see the following document https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/tidu378a/tidu378a.pdf chapter 4.2. This is for the RF430CL330H but can be used also in your case. For higher supply voltages a low power DC/DC converter can be added (e.g. TLV61225 for 3.3V).
