balun with the PCB monople antenna

we would like to use the pcb monopole antenna with the CC1110, in the 868MHz band. The monopole antenna circuit is described in the desing note DN024 and it use  discrete components for the balun.

Is possible to use a integrated balun in this design?

We will use a PCB board wider then the design note. Our PCB will get a wider ground plane, and a wider dielectric in both sides of the antenna. How it affetcs to the antenna?

  • Hi,

The antenna design in DN024 can be used with a matched component balun (such as JTI in DN025) without any problems.

Always wise to add a pi-network for antenna matching purposes so the matching losses are kept to a mininum; this will also help the antenna if it is slightly detuned since a wider GND plane will be used.

    Regards, Richard.

  • Richard, thanks for your answer

In the DN025 (balun JTI ) appears a T-network with the balun. How must we add the pi-network to tune the antenna? (removing the T-network, betwen balun and the T-network,....) and How is the pi-network?

    Regards,

    Jose R. Quintanilla

  • Dear José,

I attached an image with the layout of a monepole antenna (915 MHz) with J balun and the placeholders of a PI network. This image will give a good idea of the PI network. This design does not have the LC filter neither the DC blocking Cap. I hope It can help you.

    Best regards,
