RF430CL330H: Amount of field strength required for TIDA-00217

Part Number: RF430CL330H
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00217,

Hello,

I am trying to design an NFC Reader module to read NDEF message from RF430CL330H based TIDA-00217. I would like to know the Minimum amount of field strength required to passively power and communicate with TIDA-00217 tag.

Thank you in advance.

  • Hello Manoj,

The power requirements for that board were never measured as it was outside of the scope of the TI Design. With our NFC hardware we could reliably a single TIDA-00217 board at acceptable distances and that was the only requirement from our point of view, thus detailed current measurements were not made. You can feel free to make your own if you wish, but that is not something we plan to spec out for the TI Design.

Also I should mention that 'field strength' isn't what you should be seeking, but rather what the power requirement is for your TIDA-00217. The field strength is dependent on many factors including antenna topology, antenna coupling between tag/reader, read distance, and output power of the reader. So to best design your application, you should first understand the power requirements for the TIDA-00217 board, and then you can correlate that to the output power of the reader device you are using.
