CC1101-Q1: SmartRF studio 7 communication error

Hi Experts,

Good day

I am having an issue with SmartRF Studio 7. When connecting to a CC1101-Q1 device I get a warning saying communication error relating to chip comms. It detects that there is a CC1101 device connected but can get no further than this.

See attached.

It seems intermittent. Initially, it said device communication error. I have just powered up again and it appeared to be working (although when sending packets nothing was visible on our spectrum analyzer) but now has this error.

Hi Josel,

How is the customer testing this; is it a custom board or a TI EVM (connected to a SMARTRFTRXEBK)?

It looks like these two threads may be related (i.e. using a CC-DEBUGGER directly with a CC1101-Q1 device); please can you confirm?

Customer responds.

This is on our own product prototype board. We have wires connected to test points (with no MCU installed) that are connected to the CC-DEBUGGER device. I previously confirmed with you that this can be done without needing to be on an EVM with host micro.

Please advise.

A common issue (highlighted by TheGhostOf) is not connecting Pin 2 to VDD on the target board; please can they double-check the connections according to the diagram below?
