We want to enable the ACS (Automatic Channel Selection) mode for the hostpad utility

for this we use the following

  1. Linux kernel version 4.9.88 (Full config of Linux kernel in attachment)

  2. Hostapd utility from https://git.ti.com/cgit/wilink8-wlan/hostap/ We are using upstream_2p10_rebase branch. We also disabled built-in ACS support inside hostapd (at compile time) to use the ACS mechanism from Texas Instruments. (Full config of hostapd utility in attachment)

  3. WL2637 Firmware version 8.9.0.0.90

  4. WL2637 PHY firmware version 8.2.0.0.246

  5. Settings from current firmware in attachment

At the moment, we have the following situation - hostapd creates a wlan0 interface, but we can't connect to it (also, the new wireless network is not visible in other devices). Log of hostapd in attachment

But at the same time, we can scan other networks



But if we do not use the ACS mode (but specify a specific channel), then there are no problems with the wl1837 chip and the network interface

  • Ok, can you share some logs? Are you sure that the AP network interface (wlan0 or wlan1) is up? I need some more information to help you better.

    It seems to me ACS is configured and executing correctly. You can see in the logs that the device scanned the 2.4GHz band and selected channel 6 as it saw no other APs, it reports: "(AP Count 0)".

    Are you able to use a Wi-Fi sniffer and see if the AP is active?

    When your device tries to connect to the softAP, do you see any wlcore driver logs?

    I see in your first image that the wl18xx firmware is coming up and down multiple times. Was this something happening on your end? For example you might have executed iw wlan0 down or similar?

    Can you confirm that the dhcp server is running on your system?

  • Confirmed DHCP server is running and firmware going up and down was us experimenting.

    Maybe we have not correctly specified something in the config file for hostapd. Could you check out hostapd.conf? Maybe we need to set something additional, some kind of parameter?
