CC3135: Hooking CC3135 Boosterpack to CC3235SF Module Launchpad

Part Number: CC3135
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3235SF, MSP432E401Y, MSP-EXP432E401Y, CC3120BOOST, CC3120, CC31XXEMUBOOST, CC3100, SIMPLELINK-SDK-WIFI-PLUGIN, UNIFLASH,

Dear all

I'm confused about what I can hook together and what's not possible.

To run a CC3135 example I need an MCU, that operates the SPI (or UART). In a thread I read that an MSP432 will do. There's an MSP432 on the CC3235SF Module Launchpad. Can I use it to run examples (while having the CC3235SF Module disconnected or isolated as it may be called if the Jumper are removed)?

Kind regards

Christian

  • Hi Christian,

No, you can't do this. MSP432 (TM4Cxxx) chip at CC32xx LaunchPad works like a XDS-110 debug probe. It is not intended to be a general purpose MCU. For your CC3135 Boost you should to use MSP432E401Y LaunchPad.

  • Hi Jan

Thank you for your answer. To be honest, I don't really understand the setup, when I look at the TI site... Did I get that right, that I need

    1. MSP-EXP432E401Y — SimpleLinkTm Ethernet MSP432E401Y MCU LaunchPadTm Development Kit (which seems to be the same in all the packages like BLE and WIKI)

    2. CC3120BOOST — SimpleLinkTm Wi-Fi® CC3120 Wireless Network Processor BoosterPackTm Plug-In Module (to probably somehow stack in between the MSP-EXP432E401Y and the CC31xxEMOBOOST)

    3. CC31XXEMUBOOST — Advanced Emulation BoosterPack for SimpleLink Wi-Fi CC3100 BoosterPack plug-in module

    4. Code Composer Studio

    5. SIMPLELINK-SDK-WIFI-PLUGIN — SimpleLinkTm software development kit (SDK) Wi-Fi® plug-in

Is that all or did I miss something? Or is it possible to go without the CC3120BOOST

    Many thanks and kind regards

    Christian

  • Hi Christian,

You should to have MSP-EXP432E401Y + BOOSTXL-CC3135. CC31XXEMUBOOST is optional, but useful, because it allow to program BOOSTXL-CC3135 by the Uniflash software directly.
