Murata wifi/BT module LBEE5ZSTNC-523 and production calibration

We are currently preparing production using Murata Wifi/BT module and we would like to know if we need to do calibration on every module in our production process ??

it is require to run nvs calibration for every individual unit that we ship? And is this to tweak power settings so that the units are more consistent in their Tx power and Rx sensitivity? So if calibration were not performed on each unit, some units would have potentially lower wifi performance?

if we are require to perform calibration on every unit, then does a wifi external antenna need to be attached during calibration? Or is it something internal in the chip?

Just trying to understand in detail what is required and what the impacts are.

Hello,

The NVS maps the PA curve in dBm to mV using the power detector in the FEM (Front End Module). Each PA curve is different so unique NVS is needed per device.

There are 2 options, getting NVS from Murata per module assuming they executed the process in the module production or generate it by yourself.

You can also use a default NVS for all your product but then TI can't promise the output power accuracy.

sound like we will have to do the calibration process for every unit we build in production if we want the best performance.

what about connecting the external antenna before running calibration, is this require ?

This is required because generating the NVS needs 50ohm termination.

Regarding the BT FCC tools, you should use HCI. did you get TI Wirelss tool kit?

Hi,

you should use the HCI command HCI_VS_DRPb_Tester_Con_TX. on the left side of the HCI tool you may see parameters to control the modulation (EDR3, EDR2, GFSK, BLE and CW). You don't need to use the hopping command because the FCC should be tested in single channel and the hopping is taken as a factor.1616.SWRU136 - HCITester User Guide.pdf

As for BT system, it’s being tested according to FCC 15.247(a)

See the following explanation for BT correction factor calculation:

Up to 5 slots of transmission
Hopping rate of 1600 hops/sec
Maximum dwell time is: 5/1600 sec or 3.125 msec
Maximum dwell time in a 100 msec period is 4 * 3.125 msec = 12.5 msec
Therefore, the average correction factor is 20log(12.5/100) = -18dB
As this is a hopping ratio, the correction factor can be applied to the average value of the signal provided the average value was measured with the device continuously transmitting

The Murata wifi/BT module is connected directly to an embedded ARM9 CPU running Linux. Do you have any information for Linux ??

Hi,

I assume you are using Linux with Bluez support, hcitool is bluez utility, so you can use the same command to validate. Let me know if i have understood you question correctly.

Yes we are using BlueZ and yes we do have Linux hcitool. What I am looking for is the exact or actual hcitool commands that I can provide to the FCC lab in order for them to perform the Bluetooth tests and certification

please use the below command to configure the packet type

 cc [--role=m|s] [--pkt-type=<ptype>] <bdaddr>
              Create baseband  connection  to  remote  device  with  Bluetooth
              address  bdaddr.   Option --pkt-type specifies a list of allowed
              packet types.  <ptype>  is  a  comma-separated  list  of  packet
              types,  where  the possible packet types are DM1, DM3, DM5, DH1,
              DH3, DH5, HV1, HV2, HV3.  Default is to allow all packet  types.
              Option  --role  can have value m (do not allow role switch, stay
              master) or s (allow role switch, become slave if the  peer  asks
              to become master). Default is m.

I assume the question is really regarding placing the Bluetooth subsystem into a mode for continuous transmit, etc.
