WL1807MOD: Mesh and Time Synchronization functionalities

Part Number: WL1807MOD

I am interested in WL1807MOD chip because of its functions like MESH and Time Synchronization. I have a few questions:

  1. Regarding the WiLInk8 modules for comparison: (: https://www.ti.com/assets/js/compareParts/compare.html?familyId=1625&parts=WL1837MOD,WL1835MOD,WL1831MOD,WL1807MOD,WL1805MOD,WL1801MOD&cols=o1,p2192,p1130,p3053,p1694,p2792,p3232,p3067,p3055,p1697,p1480,p367,p3052max,p3274,p1803,p1219,p1498,p886,p3050,p1192,o4&lang=en

Please confirm which modules listed (1837, 1825, 1831, 1807, 1805 and 1801) are compatible with the TI Wi-Fi Mesh protocol AND precise time synchronization feature?

  1. What is the firmware version that is supporting the above functionalities? Where I can obtain it? Are the chips delivered with some firmware version?
  2. If I want to buy modules that incorporate the TI WLink8 modules (for example: https://wireless.murata.com/type-xr.html) will I be able to upgrade this specific module with appropriate firmware version in order to use the mesh functionalities described above?
  3. Can you recommend any other third party modules with Wl1807MOD so I can integrate it into my embedded device?
  4. What is the procedure for firmware upgrade? Are the Wilnk8 modules supporting OTA firmware upgrade?
  5. I would like to use my custom MQTT communication protocol using the WL1807MOD chip. Please confirm this?
  6. What is the bandwidth and speed of data? My applicaiton requires ~5KB of data per second per module in a Wi-Fi mesh network of ~30 modules.
  7. How to obtain free-RTOS drivers for this chip? I have read that Clarinox are producing those drivers but they have astronomical prices that are intended for large companies.

Thank you,

  • Hi ,

TI does not provide wilink8 free-RTOS drivers . You seem to already have clarinox contact .  MQTT is part of application layer , wireless drivers should be agnostic to application layer protocol .  WiFi mesh is available on all TI WiLink8 modules. TI firmware versions are compatible with TI and 3rd party modules. We recommend using our latest firmware @

    Thanks

  • Hi Saurabh,

    Thanks for your answers.

I assume that also all TI WiLink8 modules are supporting the precise time synchronization feature also? (R8.7 and above). Please confirm.

Can you provide some guide on firmware update procedure?

    Thanks again,

  • Hi ,

To update firmware simply replace firmware binary wl18xx-fw-4bin on your file system . Yes time sync feature is not specific to module version .

    Thanks

    Saurabh

  • Hi,

Thanks for your answers. To confirm that I have understood it correctly:

    1. Firmware update is done by replacing the .bin file under the file system. I assume this is done under Linux environment. My intention is to use those modules into the embedded product that runs with STM32 MCU under RTOS. Please explain

    2. Time sync feature: this means that all WiLink8 modules support this with appropriate firmware. Is this correct?

    Thanks again,

  • Hi

    1 . Can't comment on non-Linux OS implementation

    2. Yes

    Thanks
