WL1835MOD: Configuring for adaptivity test WL1835MOD Wi-Fi and BLE

Part Number: WL1835MOD

Hi,

I am using COM8 board for my CE testing. Can you please let us know how to configure for adaptivity testing using RTTT tool and HCI Tester.

Thanks,

Ganesh

  • Ganesh,

We have assigned your post to the relevant engineer and will get back to you.
  • Ganesh,

See this Testing guide for BT/BLE test modes with HCITester.

  • Hi Vihang,

Please give some more information on how the adaptivity test was done during ETSI testing.

What tools (hardware and software/scripts ) were used and what was the procedure for doing rx blocking + adaptivity tests for Bluetooth, BLE and adaptivity tests ?

Basically a short description how wifi, bt, ble were configured for adaptivity and rx blocking test as part of latest RED certification in the COM8 board will be really useful.

I will re-phrase this into 3 sub-divisions for the ease of answering.

Please confirm if these features are sufficient to carry over the testing or any changes are required.

    Wi-fi

Transmitter setup - RTTT tool with CCA enable

Receiver setup - RTTT tool receiver statistics (Rx mode) selecting channel.

    Bluetooth + EDR :

Transmitter setup - Packet transmission using hciTester tool

Receiver Setup - Control through LMP ? / Any scripts available

    BLE :

Transmitter setup - CBT ?? or packet transmission ?

Receiver Setup - Control through LMP ? / Are thera any scripts available ?

  • Please give us bit more detail on the hardware and software setup used for doing adaptivity + rx blocking test for ETSI testing.
  • Hi Ganesh,

    1) For wi-fi adaptivity, RTTT is not used. It is done at the system level with the host. The way that test is done is that you connect (hard-wired) to an AP at a given channel and modulation. You then run iperf and send packets at a high rate to the AP. Then you add the interferer to the setup so that the wilink device/module is calibrated at the level required by the standard. Note that the interferer must be a 100% duty cycle signal. The new RED standard requires that 3 interferer's be uses a LTE, AWGN, and wideband signal.

Receiver blocking can be done with RTTT or at the system level. In this mode the blocker is sent in per the standard and RTTT or Wilink can be used to gather the BER statistics. In this way you can determine if you pass the requirement.

    2) BT + EDR. Adaptivity is done in the same manner as above. In this case we connect to the CBT tester do to the testing. Same for receiver blocking

    3) BLE does not support adaptivity. Thus for BLE you must ensure the power is less that 10dBM EIRP. For receiver blocking is it is done connecting to the CBT tester.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,
    Riz
  • Hi Riz,

Thanks! That is indeed really helpful to understand how tests were done.

I will connect WL1835MOD to a host and run adaptivity test for wi-fi.

I see a check box (CCA enable) on the RTTT, I believed that will take care of adaptivity ? It will be nice if you can explain, why it has to be done at the system level.

I can understand how to do the Receiver blocking test using RTTT

For BT+EDR adaptivity, Should there be a host or COM8 board connected to PC with bts loaded is enough? Then the CBT will take control and do the rx blocking and adaptivity test ?

Please do share any scripts/configurations if any for BT/BLE modes for doing the tests with CBT. I am doing the tests with Sporton labs itself. So the test procedures will largely be similar I guess.

    Thanks,

    Ganesh

  • Hi Ganesh,

In RTTT for CCA enable, this is turning on the feature or turning it off. You use this in noisy environments in your testing so that you can get good RF testing done. ITs not used for "adaptivity" testing per say. Adaptivity requires the host as it sending iperf data, you cannot do this with RTTT as the PC is the emulation and not valid to do this.

Sporton should be fully aware of how to run the test for Wilink as they are the lab that we use. They should also have all the commands needed. We don't have scripts available that we provide. We have the wiki pages that you can refer to:

    processors.wiki.ti.com/.../WL18xx_Bluetopia_PM_Bluetooth_RF_Testing.

I will let Vihang comment on how to set up the device to connect to the CBT tester. You will laod the .bts file and they some commands so that you can establish a connection with the CBT tester. Then the CBT tester can do the testing...

    Thanks,
    Riz
