CC2592: CC2592 with CC2510

Hello,

I have made a CC2592 module for integration with CC2510. I have followed TI reference design.

But I am not getting expected result.

Below is my control pin status

PA - Connected to Vcc (3.3V)

LNA - Connected to GND

HGM - Float (Not connected) as suggested in the datasheet.

For testing purpose, initially, I took two TI CC2510 module. One as Transmitter and the other one as a receiver. The transmit power is -30dBm. When I connected both of them through a coaxial cable, the RSSI reading at receiver is -30.

When I connected CC2592 in between the two, the reading is still -30 only.

I am not observing any gain in power.

  • To do debug on a design with a PA you need a spectrum analyzer. It's not possible to determine if your board is OK or not without more accurate testing.
  • Is there any driving requirement for CC2592 that it's control pins should be operated from on-chip software?

    The control pins should be made high or low during transmission or reception only?

    Spectrum analyzer is long way at least first it has to satisify basic power test.

  • I tried driving CC2592 trough Radio Test Signals. But still getting the same output. CC2592 is not amplifying the signal.

  • The control signals can be static.

    Using CC2592 and other amplifiers you need basic RF equipment such as a spectrum to debug. You also need this to do a basic check to see if the spectrum is ok and that the harmonics is as expected.

    RSSI does not give much information and the RSSI reading on CC2510 saturate on fairly low levels (- 20 dBm). The RSSI results you are seeing is strange since if the control signals to the CC2592 are set incorrectly the chip will typically attenuate the signal with 30 dB. I have never seen the signal go just straight through the chip and hence I don't really trust the result without any other measurements to support this observation.
  • As the saturation leves are low, I have set the the input power to -30 dBm.

    When I am Grounding PA_EN pin , the received signal is going down to -65 dBm. Therefore your statement about incorrect pin configuration is valid.

    But when I am making it high, I expect the received to be around -8 dBm or -10 dBm.

    For saturation levels, when I make transmit power as -8 dBm, the receiver rssi reading is -8 dBm. So I don't think saturation problem should come. When I made transmit power as -4dBm, it got saturated and stop receiving the signals.

  • Does TI have the evaluation kit only for CC2592?

    I tried to search. But only available with CC2538 + CC2592.

  • We don't have a CC2592EVM. The main reason for this is that the performance is very dependent on the combination of the RF chip in front of CC2592 and the CC2592. The device also has a differential input targeting being the correct load for the PAs used in the CC25xx series.
