CC2652R: TI-RTOS for LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1

Hello,

I am porting a TI-RTOS to CC2652R and have a few questions.

1. The evaluation board is LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1. Would like to confirm it is for CC2652, not CC2642 as the latter MCU is also mention in the evaluation board introduction page.

2. After TI-ROS is downloaded, I see this choice in Resource Explorer. Doe it mean it only supports GCC compiler and does it support CCS IDE?

3. Tried to import "hello" to CCS v12., but sometimes it says "install the software locally" and sometimes it says "couldn't get the agent ...". What the issue might be?

Hi Crane,

1- The LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1 is for evaluation of both the CC2642R and the CC2652R. And, to answer your question, yes a CC2652R is soldered on the LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1 (you can check this by looking at the marking of the device soldered on the board).

2- I would recommend to leverage the "TI Drivers" examples rather than the "TI-RTOS Kernel" examples.
In the TI Drivers examples, you should find examples for TI-RTOS7 (I recommend you use these), to be compiled with TICLANG (i.e. in CCS). As a side note, CCS is also usable with GCC.

3- The issue you are experiencing is probably caused by not having the SDK installed. You can download the SDK here: https://www.ti.com/tool/download/SIMPLELINK-CC13XX-CC26XX-SDK

1.) Ok got it. Just curious, for people who is using CC2642, how are they going to use LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1? Replace the IC on the evaluation board?

I am glad you ask.

CC2642 and CC2652 are binary compatible for Bluetooth LE operations (however, CC2642 is not able to run non-BLE RF operations). So no need to replace the IC when running evaluation for CC2642.

As a side note, behind the scene, the BLE projects targeting the LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1 are configured to be built for CC2642.

Hi Clement, I installed Simplelink SDK and did as what you suggested in 2.).

When I try to import the empty project from Resource Explorer, a pop-up window gives me the options of CC2652R1F and CC2652RSIP. I tried both options and both got this error:

What do you think the problem could be?

Hi,

It looks like an issue with your CCS installation.

- Have you installed CCS IDE? (https://www.ti.com/tool/download/CCSTUDIO)

- When installing CCS, have you installed the components for operation with CC13XX/CC26XX Wireless MCUs? (see here)

Once you have verified the steps above, could you please retry?

If the problem persists, could you please try the following:

1- Open CCS

2- Click Project > Import CCS Projetcs...

3- Click "Browse"

4- In the window appearing, navigate to C:\ti\<SDK>\examples\rtos\CC26X2R1_LAUNCHXL\drivers\empty\tirtos7\ticlang, then click "select folder"

5- Click finish

Yes, CCS is installed and updated with the latest version.

I verified everything except one thing about processor options I am not sure, which is if the components for operation with CC13XX/CC26XX wireless MCUs is selected. How can I verify that? I tried to run device support from help to find it out, but after it shuts down CCS as required, it did nothing.

I reinstalled CCS and selected processor support for CC26XX. Then I imported the example project from the file system and it works.

Hi Clement, I didn't find a TI-RTOS configuration file *.cfg in the empty project in the drivers folder. Does it mean it is not TI-RTOS? But it does create threads and called BIOS_start(). Would it work if I just copy a .cfg file to this project and edit it? Or I need to use other example if I would like to use TI-RTOS? I do see the projects in the some folders other than drivers has .cfg file.
