CC2538EMK: CC2538EMK doesn't work with an SmartRF06EB

Part Number: CC2538EMK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2538

I have got 12 CC2538EMs and when I plug the CC2538EM into the SmartRF06EB, I can see some info on the LCD and the power indicator will light on. But one CC2538EM doesn't work at all when I got it. When this CC2538EM is plugged into the SmartRF06EB and the power switch is turned on, the LCD doesn't show anything and the power indicator doesn't light on.

  • What software do you run on your CC2538? Can you take a picture of your boards and attach it?

  • Thank you YK Chen for your reply.

Actually I didn't run any software on my CC2538. I doubt that that one doesn't work simply because it is defective.

On the left is the CC2538EM that doesn't work when it is plugged into the SmartRF06EB.  In addition to that, I have two SmartRF06EB boards, and they can not work with this one.

The right fig shows what I got when the other 11 CC2538EMs I have got was plugged into the SmartRF06EB.

  • Try to download attach PER test hex into your left CC2538EM+SmartRF06EB to see if it works.

    8750.per_test.zip

  • For the EM that looks like it fails, does i show up in SmartRF Studio?

  • Is there a jumper across the CC238EM board in question that connects VDD to EB power?  Please visually confirm that the physical connections are identical.

    Regards,
    Ryan

  • Hi Ryan,

    Thank you!

The CC2538EM board in question didn't have a jumper on it when it came to me. Unfortunately, it still doesn't work with a jumper.

    Regards,

    Bo

  • Hi TER,

Yes, I am using SmartRF studio.

    Bo

  • Hi Ryan,

With the jumper on it, I can configure the board via SmartRF Studio. I think my problem has been partly solved. But the LCD, as before, doesn't show anything.

    Regards,

    Bo

  • Do you try to download my previous attached PER test hex into your CC2538 to see if LCD can display PER test?

  • Hi YK,

To be honest, this is a new device to me and I have been trying to google up something on how to do what you recommended. It may take some time for me.

Actually my goal is simply to make this device work as a transmitter and didn't expect this kind of trouble comes up.

    Thanks.

    Regards,

    Bo

  • I am clear about your purpose now but you are asking why there is no LCD display on your left board as it is on right. Since your right CC2538DK runs PER test on LCD so I attached the PER test software hex file for you. You can try to download the hex file with Flash Programmer 2 to your left CC2538DK and see if the LCD shows anything.

  • Hi YK,

I have downloaded the hex file with Flash Programmer 2 to he CC2538, and it does work!

    Thank you so much!

    Regards,

    Bo
