TMS3705: Methods to increase the read range of the receiver

Hi all,

I'm using TMS3705 with UCC27424-Q1 amplifier (Configuration attached). The read range needs to be maximized up to 2m.

The progress up to now,

We used circular loop antennas with copper wires different gauges (Radius = 5cm) and able to have a read range of 30cm.

The questions,

1. What are the possible areas I can focus on to achieve it other than antenna design?

2. What are the possible types, orientations and significance that I should consider in antenna design (The antenna area should be less than 80cm X 5cm X 3cm)?

i doubt you will be successful here with your setup

antenna is too small and the output power will not be enough.

you really need a high power setup like what is in the attached, a large antenna and a large tag for this distance.

What what transponder are you using to get your current results and to try and meet the desired range?

Thank you for the response.

The transponder used is a circular wire wound tag with 3cm in diameter.

Hi Ralph,

I referred the attachment. Can't we achieve the 2m range using a push pull circuit in front of the UCC27424. We are fixed from the transponder side (3cm diameter coil circular transponder).

Hello Savinda,

With that tag size, 2m is not going to be possible period. As Josh's performance chart shows, ~1m is going to be tops with even a large antenna, but the antenna you have listed (80x5x3) - you will have much reduced read range from that though.

30cm read range is a pretty good result already for the antenna dimensions you have.
