INA200, the role of an external transistor with CMPOUT

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA200

Dear Specialists,

My customer is considering INA200.

He has a question about external transistor(Q1) with CMPOUT.

Could you please advise?

---Question---

According to the datasheet P.14 and P.15, CMPOUT is connected to an external transistor.

What is the role of external transistor?

---My comment---

CMPOUT is open drain output, it could drive only a few mA.

It is not enough to drive High-side FET, so Q1 is added for current boost.

Could you please advise correct or not and other reason,

Best regards,

Shinichi

  • Hello Shinichi,

On Page 15 of the datasheet, the external transistor Q1 is simply being used as an inverter to drive the NMOS of the Over-Current Shutdown circuit.

As for Page 14, Q1 is connected in a cascode configuration to isolate the CMPout pin from potentially large supply voltages introduced from the pull-up resistor R3. In the note on Page 14, the high voltage ratings of Q1 are highlighted.
