[FAQ] Where do I connect the power pad for an operational amplifier?

Some devices have a power pad on their package, where should you connect it?

  • If your device has a thermal pad, it should be electrically connected to the lowest potential in the circuit, usually the negative supply voltage. If this pad is unconnected, you may capacitively couple noise into the circuit. In layout, make sure that this pad is connected to a plane and not simply a via or wire - there will not be enough thermal sinking capability otherwise.
