I plan to build a 20 amp constant current sink circuit to test out 3.6 volt batteries. The pass elements will be 4, CSD18534KCS mosfets that are driven into the linear region. The gate resistors I plan to use are 4, 100 ohms resistors connected to output of the TL431. My question is, will these mosfets cause the TL431 to oscillate?? And if so, how would I stop this?
Dennis,
Is this the topology for the constant sink?
The MOSFETS could add some lag at higher frequencies. C1 bypasses the loop at high frequencies to stabilize the loop.
With 2.5V on R1, there will be only 1.1V across the MOSFETS with a 3.6V battery voltage.
If there isn't enough headroom, use TLV431 instead (VREF=1.24V).
