LMX2571: Suggestions for Reducing Phase Noise

Part Number: LMX2571

Hello,

I received the following question from a customer:  Are there any suggestions on how to reduce the phase noise in LMX2571?

  • Hi Kevin,

Can the customer provide device configuration details and/or end application details? Depending on what they are trying to do, there could be other devices with improved fractional PLL performance.

  • Kevin,

A few things to keep in mind:

    1. You can model the phase noise with the PLLatinum Sim tool
    2. If you use the programmable input multipler, it does degrade the PLL phaes noise
    3. The input reference needs to be clean, otherwise it's noise can dominate
    4. It is preferred to have a fast slew rate for the input reference.
