Functioning of DS90UB913A / 914A when power Up.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ALP

Hi,

1) Did the DS90UB913A / 914A need to be configure for the register setting using the SPA Dongle Board & ALP GUI every-time power on?

2) What's the purpose of the SPA Dongle & ALP GUI used for?

3) I've the TI eval board for 913A / 914A and connected to Aptina Camera module. Did the Ser & Der able to transfer camera data without any ALP GUI setting in the 1st time? Currently I don't have the SPA Dongle Board.

4) Current board are set to Pixel Clock input to Ser. Can I2C able to transfer bi-direction from Der to Ser in order Aptina DevWare to communicate or detect Camera module and then control the camera module setting on the fly?

5) At what setting and condition, data from Camera module able to transfer data from Ser -> Der and I2C able transfer bi-direction?

Thanks.

  • Hi Kah Joo Lee,

1 ) No. The SPA dongle is simply a USB-to-I2C controller.

2 ) The SPA dongle is I2C controller and the ALP GUI is the software for it.

3 ) I believe the Aptina camera must be initialized in order to start capturing and transmitting data.

4 ) You may use the Aptina DevWare along with the Demo2X connected to 914A for the I2C transactions. The 913A/914A will provide the I2C communication link between the camera and controller.

5 ) Camera sensor must be initialized and programmed first.

  • Hi Dac Tran,

    1) With the connection setting as following:- Aptina Image Sensor + Ser -> Der + Demo2x + DevWare.

    2) Can I said that Aptina Image Sensor need to pre-program the setting and able to output picture data with 10bits, Pixel Clock, FSYNC, HSYNC when power up.

    3) With follow above connection, and pre-setting at Image sensor, I can just power up the connection and the picture data able transfered from Ser -> Der without any I2C setting to 913A / 914A?

    4) Also, can I said by default register setting after power up, the 913A & 914A able to transfer the data bus from Ser to Der as long as the LOCK signal are high?

    5) However, I've confuse of looking at Application Report " SNLA222 - I2C over 913/4 FPD-Link III with Bidirectional Contral Channel" to have the I2C setting in order to control Remote Camera? Or, with pre-program setting at Camera Module, and power up, the data will transfer from Ser -> Der?

    Thanks

  • Hello Kah Joo Lee,

You should not have to pre-configure register settings on 913A/914A after power-up in order to send camera data. Default settings should be OK.

Depending on the camera sensor, you might need to configure register settings over I2C after power-up in order to transfer video data.

  • Hi Sean,

    Thanks for replied.

    1) The Aptina Software need to detect the Image Sensor through I2C during Software start up, else the software will shows error.

    2) By default, after Power Up, did the I2C able to talk to image sensor at Ser side?

    3) By which register setting that I need to set through I2C to LVDS in order to allow I2C able reach image sensor at Ser?

    4) Any steps recommend for I2C setting?

    Thanks.
